About Advoke CV

Advoke CV is a free, private resume builder that runs entirely in your browser. This page explains what it is, who it is for, how it works and — importantly — where its limits are.

What it is

Advoke CV is a static website that gives you three things:

Every template is original. Nothing is copied from other products. Every template has its own layout, typography, spacing and header treatment, so choosing between them is a real choice.

Who it is for

Anyone who needs a resume or CV and does not want to hand their personal information to a service that monetises it. That includes:

How it works

Advoke CV is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. There is no backend, no database and no user accounts. Everything is delivered as plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript files that your browser loads once.

When you edit a resume, the changes are stored in your browser's localStorage — a small, private storage area on your own device. That data never leaves your device. When you export a PDF, your browser generates the file locally using its own print engine. Nothing is uploaded at any point.

There are no analytics scripts, no advertising pixels, no session recorders and no third-party requests of any kind once the page has loaded. You can open your browser's developer tools and confirm this for yourself.

Why it is free

Because it costs almost nothing to run. A static site with no backend, no database and no user accounts is cheap to host, and the free tier of Cloudflare Pages handles this scale comfortably. There is no business model that requires us to charge you, and no investor expecting a return.

There is also no upsell waiting at the end. You will not spend twenty minutes building a resume and then discover that you need to pay to download it, remove a watermark or unlock a template. Every feature you see is available to everyone.

Honest limitations

A few things you should know before relying on Advoke CV.

Drafts are stored in one browser on one device

Your resume is saved to your browser's local storage. That means it lives on the specific device and browser you are using. It does not sync across devices. If you start a resume on your phone and open the site on your laptop, the laptop will not see the phone's resume.

To move a resume between devices, use the Export backup option in the editor's Resumes panel. This creates a JSON file with every resume you have, which you can then import on the other device.

Clearing site data removes everything

If you clear your browser's site data, cookies and stored data for advoke-cv.pages.dev, every resume you have saved will be permanently deleted. Using a private/incognito window and then closing it does the same thing. So does uninstalling the browser or resetting the device.

There is no recovery. Export a backup before clearing browser data if you want to keep your work.

PDF export uses the browser's print dialog

When you click "Download PDF", your browser opens its own print dialog. This is the only zero-dependency way to produce a PDF with real selectable text. In that dialog, you need to choose "Save as PDF" as the destination. On some devices the print dialog looks slightly different, but the workflow is always the same.

Two-column templates are not perfect for every ATS

Modern applicant tracking systems handle two-column resumes reasonably well. Older or stricter systems may read them out of order. Every template on the site is clearly marked as ATS-safe or not, and the ATS-friendly category contains ten templates that are guaranteed to parse cleanly. If you are unsure about the employer's system, use an ATS-friendly template.

One favicon image

The site uses exactly one image file — /favicon.webp — for the browser tab icon, the header brand mark, the footer brand mark and the manifest icon. Every other visual element (icons, avatars, the profile mark inside templates) is drawn as inline SVG or CSS. This is a deliberate choice to keep the site fast and easy to review.

What it is not

Things Advoke CV does not do, and will not do:

Technology

Advoke CV is built with vanilla HTML, CSS and JavaScript. There is no build step, no bundler and no framework. The site is served directly from static files by Cloudflare Pages.

The template system is data-driven: each of the sixty templates is a configuration object that declares its layout family, typography, palette, spacing and header treatment. A single render engine combines that configuration with your resume data to produce the HTML for any template. This is why switching templates preserves your content exactly — the content and the presentation are separate.

PDF export uses the browser's native print pipeline with a strict print stylesheet that sets A4 or US Letter dimensions, margin boxes, page-break rules, orphan and widow control. This produces output with real selectable text, which is what applicant tracking systems parse correctly.

Contact

There is no support email because there is no support to provide — Advoke CV has no accounts, no billing and no server-side state that could go wrong. If you find a bug or want to report a layout issue, you can open an issue in the public repository.

Your data stays on your device. Nothing you type into Advoke CV is ever uploaded, shared or tracked. Read the full privacy statement for the details.
